Namosi dedicates win to late coach

The Namosi women’s rugby team had booked its spot in the final of the ANZ Marama Championship this year after beating Yasawa 36-22 in Prince Charles Park, Nadi yesterday.

The side will play Suva in the final after the Capital City girls beat Navosa 48-5.

Namosi Skipper Laisani Navukaro said their win yesterday would not have been achieved without their faith in God.

“First of all, I’d like to thank God for the guidance and protection over us in the semi-final against Yasawa,” said Navukaro.

“We had a rough two weeks leading up to this match, where we lost our coach Elenoa Kunatuba.

“It wasn’t an easy game and we did it all for you coach Noa.”

Navukaro said they still had a lot to work on before they ran out in the final.

“We will go back and take a look at our game today (Saturday) and how we can improve on it,” she said.

“The final will not be easy so we have to be sharp and ready if we want to finish the season well.”

In the under-19 semi-finals, Suva pipped Namosi 15-10 while Nadi managed to hold off a tough Yasawa team by 5-0.

Meanwhile, Nasinu and Naitasiri have been promoted to the 2024 ANZ Marama Championship.

The two sides will meet in the Royal Tea Ranadi final next week.
