In a bid to protect the ocean, KOICA Fiji organised a cleanup campaign yesterday at the foreshore along the sea wall in Suva. Country director Kapchae Ra said the organisation was focusing on environmental issues in Fiji.

“We have technical cooperations like training programs,” Mr Ra said.

“And usually we are focusing on environmental issues in Fij.

“In order to protect the ocean we are organising this cleanup event every year. “And this year we are providing eco bags to reduce the single use of plastic bags.”

He said the cleanup campaign was an annual event.

“It started two years ago when I arrived to Fiji I organised this event with our KOICA staff and KOICA alumnae members.

“We invited other international organisations like JICA and USAID and today Korean community members also participated in our activity.

“The ocean belongs to our future generation – that is why we should reduce waste and recycle it instead.

“KOICA will participate in organised beach cleanup events and we would like to assist their efforts in reducing waste.”
